Fujifilm to launch the GFX50S MK II this SummerSome reports have indicated that Fujifilm GFX50S MK II could be Fuji’s next big camera launch in this summer. A reliable leaker Nokishita has pointed to an unreleased camera with codename Fujifilm GFX50S MK II. The camera has reportedly passed the FCC certification in the US. Point to be noted that the certification normally points towards an imminent official launch. Nokishita has suggested that the GFX50S MK will be launched just after the mid-2021. Fuji Rumors has a pretty reliable track record with both X-series and GFX leaks. It also pointed to the month of August 2021. Another leak suggests the next medium format camera is pretty far down the launch pipeline and could arrive not long after the landscape photographer-pleasing Fujifilm GFX100S (launched in January 2021).

Moreover, the GFX50S MK II is expected to be significantly smaller than its predecessor, like the GFX100S. Fuji Rumors also said, “The size should be close to the GFX100S”. It would make the 51.4MP much more suitable for handheld shooting and will also get in-body image stabilization. It is noteworthy that the GFX series has an innovative range of medium format cameras. They have sensors around 1.7X larger than the chips inside the best full-frame cameras. So, the GFX series is more attractive to pro photographers because it helps reshaping the entire concept of medium format cameras. However, they have traditionally been too large and expensive to be used outside the studio. The GFX100S and expected the GFX50S MK II are helping to reduce both the prices and size of medium format cameras.

We are expecting that the Fujifilm GFX50S MK II will deliver remarkable dynamic range and suitable for handheld shooting. It will reportedly use a 51.4MP sensor like its predecessor the GFX50S that lacks the on-sensor phase-detect autofocus. However, you will find this functionality on most mirrorless cameras. The expected camera is especially designed to capture fast-moving objects and will be most suitable for studio work or landscape shooting. We have experienced that the autofocus speed of the Fujifilm GFX50S was pretty decent. The camera was launched in 2019 and went on sale for $6,500 and its successor seems cost closer to the Fujifilm GFX 50R for $4,500. But, you have to wait for its official announcement from Fujifilm.
