Leak shows new advanced Panasonic Lumix S5 to launch very soonThere are some attractive options for the best affordable full-frame cameras and the Panasonic Lumix S5 is one of them. The latest leak shows the Panasonic S5 has been registered with retailers. A dependable camera leaker Nokishita has now posted full specs for the incoming junior sibling to the more pro-focused Panasonic S1. The leak has indicated the Panasonic S5 will be a significantly smaller camera than the previous. It has a weight of 714g with battery compared to the S1 with 1,021g weight. The S5 will likely inherit much of its pricier sibling’s power in spite of the reduced size. It will include the ability to shoot 4K/60p in 10-bit (4:2:0) and 4K/30p in 4:2:2 10-bit. This ability makes it more of a video-centric hybrid camera compared to the recently announced Nikon Z5.

The leak also shows other specs including a 24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor (similar to the Panasonic S1), 5-axis in-body image stabilization, a vari-angle touchscreen, and dual native ISO. It will efficiently reduce the risk of background image noise in low light situations. The new camera will have slightly less impressive 2.36-million dot EVF, 7fps burst shooting, and the inclusion of a micro-HDMI port instead of the hardier full-size variant. The Panasonic Lumix S5 will use the contrast-based DFD autofocus system and considered a hybrid full-framer.  Point to be noted that the price of the upcoming camera hasn’t yet officially disclosed but it is expected to be a much similar price tag of Panasonic S5. Currently, one can get a Panasonic S1 for as little as $1,998.

Most are expecting the cost of Panasonic Lumix S5 could cost more than the price of Nikon Z5 (body-only price $1,399), but the Panasonic S5 will launch for somewhere between that and the Panasonic S1’s current pricing. There is one other benefit of the Panasonic S5 compared to other new full-frame mirrorless camera systems is that it now has a relatively large selection of native lenses. It is due to the system already has 18 lens options (part of L-Mount alliance with Sigma and Leica) with others being added recently from the likes of Venus Optics’ Laowa range. If the Panasonic S5 comes in at a reasonable price, then it could prove to be a solid option for non-professionals, especially for a video-focused hybrid camera.
