First underwater Ride-hailing service ScUber from UberThere was a long awaited feature to happen. Now, Uber has launched an underwater ride-calling service and named it “ScUber”. The project is a partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland. It will take pairs of passengers for a trip to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. People can book their trip using the regular Uber app. The company will charge trip fee based on a flat fee, plus rates of charge and distance unlike UberBLACK, UberX, and UberXL. You will get a dip in the sub at a flat fee of 1,500 Australian Dollars per person.

The ScUber will take two passengers to dive, so that fee will be doubled for each sub. That’s pretty sharp, but you’ll be helping save the reef you’re visiting and it is a part of the project. Uber is also donating $100,000 to Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef to help preserve the delicate coral ecosystem. It is noteworthy that ScUber won’t be sticking around for long.

People will be able to take a sub from Heron Island between May 27 and June 3. You can also take it from Agincourt Reef, off the coast of Port Douglas, between June 9 and June 18. The regional manager of Uber for Australia and New Zealand, Susan Anderson said, “We’re looking forward to seeing how visitors to the Great Barrier Reef embrace this new form of movement and become advocates of the reef for years to come”.
