Microsoft has developed a ready-to-use webcam with Teams without bothering to work from home, ‘Modern Webcam’, also considered ‘Teams Certified’. This webcam has the ability to work well using any app, while the Teams Certified label enables you to know for using Teams. However, it shouldn’t be considered a flagship webcam, which means it isn’t 4K, even the support of facial recognition for Windows Hello.
The device is just a webcam aimed at video conferencing. You will find many webcams, but you must check the best webcams for Windows PCs. Microsoft webcam is 1.99-inch in length, 1.42-inch in width, 2.94-inch in-depth, and 0.21 pounds or 88.3g in weight.
The exterior includes glass and polished black for the front window, copper and glossy silver for tripod mount, and plastic, TPE, rubber, and matte black as other components. The Modern Webcam includes a 1080p 30 FPS video output sensor and 1.4um x 1.4um. It works well with HDR, auto white balance, auto exposure, auto anti-flicker, and expansive 78-degree field of view. The cable length is 1.5 meters including an audio codec, PCM, 16bit, 16 kHz sampling, and a USB-A cable. The webcam is compatible with macOS 10.15+, Windows 8/1, Windows 10, and Windows 11. Point to be noted that you can get Microsoft Modern Webcam directly from the Microsoft Store for just $70.
It is noteworthy that you can now get the Modern Webcam for just $55. The webcam has a small, streamlined, and operational camera. It can be mounted on the top of your monitor using a stand or tripod. The Modern Webcam has a glossy black finish and a built-in protection shield to snap open & shut. Moreover, the shut position also cut the camera feed to actually cover the lens. There is a small ring light around the sensor to find the camera is on after activation. The webcam is plug & play, so you don’t need to run a real setup. You just need to insert the USB-A cable into your computer and start your webcam operation.
Microsoft Accessory Center app
Moreover, the Microsoft Accessory Center app will enable you to customize the webcam according to your requirements. You can modify settings such as HDR on/off, color temperature, auto white balance, and others. The device has a 1080p shooter camera and features auto exposure, a 78-degree view field, and HDR support with anti-flickering abilities. The Modern Webcam also features a well-rounded sensor and exposure adjustment to keep your face more visible, even if are in a room and a bright light source such as a window is behind you. The Modern Webcam is more efficient and offers the best performance in low light. It doesn’t drop frames while opening the sensor to allow more light to enter.
The camera doesn’t aimlessly follow focus as BRIO 4K from Logitech randomly tracks for focusing an object, even without moving from the front of the camera. However, some of the color temperature modifications are considered stronger. A similar effect can unfairly conflict without changing anything in your frame. It seems like a filter that you are implementing but not taking effect. However, the key differences between some effects are amazingly minor. The built-in microphone is considered a major downside of Modern Webcam and it comes as disabled by default, so Microsoft prevents users from using it. Microsoft Accessory Center app also warned that built-in mic isn’t Teams Certified.
