LG is famous for productivity-oriented laptops and especially its lightweight Gram 17, but not any serious gaming models. However, the company entered into the world of PC gaming for a while with its UltraGear range of products. Now, LG has announced its first gaming laptop, the 17G90Q. The company has confirmed that the upcoming laptop will pack up to an 11th generation Intel processor. Point to be noted that the announcement doesn’t specify if this will go up to an i7 or i9. The new device will feature an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Max-Q graphics card, dual-channel memory, and an ultra-fast dual SSD setup. The wording of the announcements suggests the 17G90Q might only be made available with the beefy RTX 3080 GPU.
Other attractive features include the 17-inch displays 1 millisecond response time and 300Hz refresh rate (can show you all 300 fps in titles capable of running well). It will make this an ideal choice for competitive gamers who like fast-paced battle royals and first-person shooters. However, the display in question is 1080p and has 16:9 ratios, unlike many of the 2K (1440p) devices we’re seeing, alongside the rising popularity of 16:10 screens. The company hasn’t yet announced the pricing, but the components and features suggest this isn’t going to be a cheap piece of kit. The 17-inch UltraGear 17G90Q model packs an 11th-generation Intel Tiger Lake H CPU, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Max-Q graphics, up to 32GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage.
The device also comes with a 300 Hz 1080p IPS display and should have pretty decent endurance for gaming or content creation with the 93Wh battery. It’s got an aluminum case with an attractive grey/purple color scheme and is fairly slim for a 17-inch gaming laptop (21.4mm). It’s decently lightweight at 5.82 pounds, though a bit heavy compared to MSI’s 17-inch GS76 Stealth laptop, which is 5.4 pounds and has a bigger battery. The laptop will also feature a USB 4 Gen 3×2 (Type C) with Thunderbolt 4, another USB-C 3.2 2×1, two USB 3.2 Gen 2×1, HDMI, microSD, headphone jack, and RJ45. Other features include a power button fingerprint sensor and 1080p webcam. The official pricing information and release date for the 17G90Q will be announced at CES 2022 during LG’s keynote at 08:00 PST on January 4.
