Samsung seems very much committed to folding the smartphone concept following the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and the Galaxy Z Flip. A newly published Samsung patent spotted by LetsGoDigital shows a device very much similar to the Galaxy Fold 2 with an LED light strip running down the hinge. The patent says the light might be used to generate alerts regarding incoming calls and messages. The strip would seemingly have a partially semitransparent cover to help protect it from damage. The patent also indicates the bar could emit different colors of lighting and even different types of effect, but it depends on the situation. However, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will reportedly have a 2nd screen and visible when the main display is closed shut.
Point to be noted that there is another helpful indicator bar if the phone’s in a bag or laid flat on a surface. The device used in the patent looks almost identical to the Galaxy Z Fold 2 partly to help show how new devices will add improvements. There’s no guarantee that an LED light strip like this will make it to the final design as always with patents. The patents are appealing indicators about experiments from the companies. Moreover, the patent provides us an interesting insight into how Samsung might enhance its folding smartphone with the Galaxy Z Fold 3. It is noteworthy that the Fold 2 was a significant upgrade over the original Fold and Galaxy fans are expecting another major announcement.
Samsung added the option to customize the hideaway hinge with a custom color with Galaxy Z Fold2. It was also said the company may have something more functional planned for version 3. The patent also mentioned a light strip and it will be illuminated in full RGB color. The light strip should be easier to spot at a distance or while the phone is in your bag compared to the Always On Display. There might be a possibility to create custom patterns and animations in spite of simply blinking a single color. It is important that there are 6 LEDs providing the light and a layer to diffuse the light in order to make everything smoother. Samsung claims it could operate as the biggest notification light in the world.
