First NVMe-based portable SSD (Portable SSD X5) has announced by Samsung. It was targeted at IT pros and content creators who want to transfer bigger files rapidly. The Portable SSD X5 has a read speed of more than 2,800MB/sec and write speed of more than 2,300MB/sec, and 2,100MB/sec for 500GB model. Samsung claimed that these read and write speeds are combined with 40Gbps-bandwidth Thunderbolt-3 connectivity. It will enable X5 owners to transfer a 20GB file in just 12 seconds. The rapid transferring speed would prove useful for those professionals working with 4K video files or high-resolution images.
Anyway, you should have a Mac or PC with a Thunderbolt-3 port because the X5 isn’t compatible and can’t work with USB. The weight of this drive is 150 grams and has a shock-resistant interior frame. It measures to prevent the X5 from overheating and data protection with AES 256-bit hardware encryption. The Portable SSD X5 has a supercar-inspired design and its owners will also get a 3-years limited warranty. The X5 will be available on sale on 3rd September 2018 at the prices of 400 U.S dollars for 500GB, 700 U.S dollars for 1TB, and 1,400 U.S dollars for 2TB.
