Most people have experienced flip phones in the past. Now they will find it with more attractive and advanced features. The CEO of Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei, Richard Yu informed Digital Trends that the company worked hard on foldable mobile phones. Yu said that it was a part of their next-generation device lineup. Huawei is unfolding the possibility of making a 5G-capable folding smartphone. Other professionals and officials at the company have discussed the idea in the past. They set a 2019 target date for a folding device. Moreover, the chief executive pointed out that the phone hasn’t yet been fine-tuned for consumer purposes. It doesn’t seem to be ready to launch in the near future. Yu added that the company was focused on introducing other phones such as the Huawei Mate 20 X (a smartphone with a 7.2-inch screen) that could certainly use a fold.
The idea of a foldable smartphone has been kicking around for years now. But, technical problems have blocked their commercialization. There are flexible and bendable screens out there like the Samsung Galaxy Round and the LG G Flex. But they have never brought out the full potential of a folding display. They often feel more like proof of concepts than fully realized devices. Samsung has utilized gently curved displays in its Galaxy lineup for several years now. The company has teased the announcement of a foldable smartphone that could come later during the current year. It could motivate other companies such as Huawei pursuing similar concepts.
