The grouping of Japanese and French auto manufacturers Nissan Motor Co. and Renault SA led in international vehicle sales for the first 6 months of 2017. It is the first time that they got the top rank after beating constant top-sellers Toyota, Volkswagen and General Motors. The Nissan-Renault coalition has added Mitsubishi Motors Corp. it picked up the Japanese auto manufacturer last year as it sold 5,268,079 vehicles internationally during January-June 2017. Volkswagen AG has dropped its top-position and sold 5,155,600 vehicles and Toyota Motor Corp has sold 5,129,000 vehicles during the first 6 months of 2017. Volkswagen has Lamborghini and Audi brands in its group, so the company was able to get the position for the first time as the world’s top selling auto manufacturer last year.
All the top automakers have many brands under their coalition and serving in various international markets. The General Motors Co. of USA had led global industry sales for at least 7 decades is at 4th position with selling 4.7 million vehicles during the first 6 months. Point to be noted that the reputation of Volkswagen has recently experienced a huge scandal over cheating on emissions tests, but its increasing sales in China and other international markets have much supported to overcome this damage. It is not clear whether Nissan will be able to maintain its top position for the entire calendar year because top auto manufacturers are running neck & neck in sales. Toyota also manufactured Camry sedan, Prius hybrid, and Lexus luxury models and got the top position after beating General Motors in 2008, but lost its position in 2011 against General Motors.
